protein smoothie

I've not yet gotten in to the smoothie craze but this type of clean eating looks fantastic. I know nothing about whey protein. Any tips? Can hardly wait for the local Farmer's Markets to start back up.

If you are moving through phase two and into phase three of the South Beach diet, you might like to try the Kardea gourmet wellness bar. All natural, lower glycemic sweetening, 7g fiber, 7g protein and only 150 calories. Also contains recommended nutrients fournd in Dr Agatston South Beach Heart Program (including 1g of plant sterols and the soluble fiber (oats and psyllium) associated with cholesterol management. Almond base also provides the good fats. If you are interested in a sample, email customerservice@kardeanutrition.com.

I'm not a huge fan of smoothies or supplements. The problem with grinding up a bunch of food is that it enables you to eat a whole lot more of it. It may seem good to eat a lot of fruit, but that is a lot of sugar that will quickly get into your blood stream and may promote insulin resistance.

Also, it is really unlikely you need extra protein from a supplement. Generally supplements are ineffective anyway. Best to get your protein from plants and fish. A diverse diet should take care of the rest.

Good points, Darya. But I'm thinking an occasional protein smoothie when the weather turns warm would be a great treat after a long bike ride.
