Since the last Monday weigh in, I took a trip to London with my husband and my parents who are in their 70s. Of course we needed to have fish & chips. We did. Twice. The first time didn't count because we were essentially zombies due to jet lag. Why was your jet lag so bad, you ask? Because our first flight had a medical emergency and was diverted back to Chicago. The airline rounded us up and gave us a hotel at 4:30 a.m. I, of course packed books & blueberries (eccentric, I know, well maybe more like dumb) in my carry on bag and did not have my thyroid med with me or stuff for my contacts. When they say it's impossible to get to your luggage in this situation -- it's true. Little to no sleep. Flight leaves later that day. Same crew; same meals served. It was a weird Ground Hogs Day situation. It took two days and three flights to get to London.

Of course we needed soft ice cream cones with flakes (OMG - how could I have been living without knowledge of the
Cadbury flake? Geebus, it has its own
wikipedia entry!) while relaxing in St. James's park on a warm, sunny afternoon. So, how'd I fare weight-wise after a week in jolly ol' Cadburyland? Great! Because we walked, and walked, and walked some more (none too quickly at this point). And also because despite the looming presence of Cadbury (I confess, the flake in the ice cream was not my only indulgence), it's not hard to eat healthy in London if you stay away from eating in pubs. The cafes inside the museums and other attractions like the London Tower offered a lot of healthy choices and the food was good with appropriate portion sizes.
So, this is about the scale right? The last weigh in was:
137.4. Today:
135.8. Zowie!

Wow Lee, you must be the only person on the planet that goes on vacation and loses weight! Way to go!! Says a lot about walking, doesn't it?
"Books and Blueberries"...maybe that should be the name of you book. :-)
That is some serious jet lag, and a tough way to start the trip but sounds like it was worth it...with the discovery of Cadbury flakes and all!!
So glad you are back...you were truly missed! :-)
Wow! what a long trip. I bet the cadbury flakes made it all worth it. Now, I've got to try some of those. Congrats on the loss.
If that photo is of cadbury flakes, I thought for a moment it might be a photo of one of those sausage things at the grocery register that have pig hearts inside.
I asked my sister just now what the sausages are called so I could write it here and she said, "gross."
Sorry your trip started off rough. It sounds like you all enjoyed it, that's what counts. And you lost weight?! I'm so happy for you!
Glad you survived the first part of that trip & Cadburyland!! YUM! I am not even a chocolate fan & that sounded good!
CONGRATS on your weigh in!!! Keep up that good work!!!
I tend to lose weight on vacation too due to keeping active & most of the time I am in warm weather places with a bathing suit (YIKES!) so I try to keep things in check but still enjoy & still keep active but with fun stuff too!
Are you back to normal yet? So hard to come back from vacation!
looks like an active vacation! congrats on the weight loss as well!
I love those Cadbury flake thingies. They are outrageously delis! Good job on keeping the weight down even with the fish&chips indulgences. ;-)
Fish and chips? ::Cammy swoons::
I'm so glad you had a great trip. It would have been a CRIME to go to London and not have fish and chips AND Cadbury! I love visiting cities that offer lots of walking opportunities to work off those regional indulgences. :)
Glad you're home safe and sound!
AWESOME ON THE LOSS.
and my condolences on the fact you knew not of the Flake before.
good g-d I love me some flake and am thankful I no longer reside in the UK :)
Soory to hear about the long, long journey but London's so worth it. Losing weight on vacation??!! Good for you! Cadbury is heaven on earth.
During the actual vacation, I think I maintained my weight. The weight seems to be coming off since the trip due to the family sh*t storm diet I'm currently on.
Heading down to southern California for a couple days to hopefully stomp out some fires in my husband's family.
I'm so sorry you are having to deal with that right after vacation Lee. :-( I hope the fire stomping is successful and doesn't come at too high of a cost to your health and happiness. Sending lots of good vibes your way.
Great job. Not only did you have a vacation, but you lost weight. Hope you had a wonderful time and welcome home.
Wow great job. Even with all the treats!! My husband is coming home from Scotland today and I told him to tell his mom NO Cadbury ANYTHING for me. She usually sends him home with about 20 pounds of chocolate and this time she sent 2 new workout t-shirts instead.
AHH I LOVE flake!! Sounds like you had a great time in London! I love living here, such a great city!
Enjoying your blog Lee!
Loosing weight on vacation is quite the impressive feat. I'm sure you'll be at your goal before you know it.
Just checking to see if you are back...hope all is well.
I am NOT happy to discover the existence of the Cadbury Flake.
I really did not need to know about those!
Sorry about the flight hassles, but that's great that you managed to sample the local cuisine and walk so much you could lose weight at the same time! That's my favorite kind of trip.
