Thought these three crows in the tree looked great while I was riding on the bike trail. Not sure my quick photo captured the beauty. Oh, well...it was an enjoyable ride on a quiet Monday morning. I actually didn't want the ride to end. A new feeling for me as I'm usually pretty ready to stop after 21 or so miles. I rode for a total of 108 miles this week even with the wicked heat (we're talking 107!). Didn't do so well on my goal of trying four new recipes though. I ended up trying two new side dishes: a tomato salad and grilled eggplant. Both were super good.
Inspired by watching the Tour de France, I tried something new today. I stood up and pedaled during the short hills. I'm sure my form was wobbly as hell but I felt like a kid again. Maybe I'll get better with practice.
What are you going to try that's new this week?

you know I needed that last question.
I am heading to the blogher conference which is new I guess---but can that really count?
who can say :)
the rest of the week is IN THE RUT ROUTINEVILLE up in herre.
Forget about form now and then, and enjoy! That feeling is why you probably chose to ride in the first place!
Not that it's new but I'm trying not to blow my stack and my diet while the teen is home inbetween summer camps. Getting out to the gym can't always be done.
Love that you are riding so much. How do you do it?!
You **almost** made me want to go ride a bike Lee!! That sounds so fun, and your stamina in that kind of heat is very impressive!
Another thing we have in common, I am forever taking pictures of birds, but mine never capture the beauty of the moment.
Good for you trying something new! Not this week, but I'd like to add strength training to my routine as something new.
I have watched a lot of the Tour de France and those guys are so healthy...damn them. I'm always afraid that if I stand up on my pedals, the pedals will crack off the bike but it's a great bike. I'd hate to be behind me when I stand up and pedal. What a site that would be to behold.
Anyway, tho we broke up, we will both be riding this coming Sat out in Seaside, Monterey area. He used to ride miles and miles in a day. One of the things that sort of annoyed him about me was that I wasn't willing to go tag off a huge chunk of miles. But I would say, "give me a break. I just finished chemo a year ago okay?
Men, you can't live with em!
Thanks for your support too. So much support in the past 24 hours from completely strangers. I'm loving it.
Well, we have way too many crows around here & they wake us up before we prefer so.. BUT, I always love your pics & to hear of your rides! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! Change is my motto every workout so love that you did that!
Me, this week it is "pulling back". I am one to push all the time & my bod has told me to slow a bit so I am trying to be good in that way. It is hard mentally for me because I am a workout crazy person BUT I am trying!!!!
Miz - have a great time at blogher!
anne - when I rode my bike in Yosemite, I was super excited just like when I was a kid riding around w/my sister on family vacations. It's impossible to feel 'mature' when you're cranking along on your bike! You are correct in your assumption.
Gigi - I have to keep changing things up or else I get bored. But, I also go through spells where I want routine. Going to a gym would be something brand new for me (and a little intimidating, although now I have all those great conversation starters via Jack Sh*t).
Patty - I never rode when it hit triple digits, but it did reach 98 a couple times at the end of a few rides. I had to get my rear in gear & get on the trail early. BTW - How many days to your B-day? Time for a count down?
Selma - I'm so impressed w/how you're doing with your running -- WTG!
POD - Those jersey boys and their skinny butts & ropey leg muscles! Hope your ride w/Chris this weekend goes well. Sounds like a gorgeous place to ride.
Jody - one thing I've learned from you is to listen to my body. Not only when it comes to food, but exercising too. You've got to figure out when to push it a little and when "pull back" as you said.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to leave a comment. I feel like I've got a really boring blog now that I'm maintaining. I appreciate your continued support. ~smile~
Lee, your blog isn't boring at all. As for trying something new this week, one of the reasons I'm late to this "party" is that I've had to work completely different hours for a couple of days. Grrrr!
Well, bootcamp is relatively new for me, and the instructor changes things up every time. So I let her bring the "new." I just try to drag my ass to class so she can kick it down the street different ways each time. (In a very nice, cheerful, encouraging way).
Love this. I keep trying the pedaling-while-standing thing and I'm certain footage is going to be on youtube any day now. :)
Not sure what new things I'll try this week. Lots of opportunities though.
Amazing that you can bike despite that gawdawful heat.
Love the image of you enjoying your new technique.
New things to try? ~~ cutting portion sizes & eating to 80% fullness. Nothing super fantastic.
