There's a concept I learned in grad school called equifinality that puts forth that same notion. Basically, it is the concept that open systems (individuals or human/societal groups in this case) may employ more ways than one to arrive at a particular end state. Also, that despite taking off from different beginning points, we can reach the same 'goal' (fitness/healthy weight, in this example) by a variety of means, although we may not arrive at the end point at the same time.
I like how Fat Daddy tells it:
You all seem to run on different brands of fuel. Some on rage. Some on humor. Some on nurturing. Some on the nuts and bolts of nutrition or exercise. Some on a kick in the ass.Weigh in everyday or toss that scale away. Limit carbs or not. Count your calories or measure success by the fit of your jeans. Become a disciple of Jillian or a regular at WW meetings. Be cranky or funny or both. Reaching and maintaining your weight loss and fitness goals really is a matter of what works best for you, mentally and physically. Yes, it's all about your unique journey; your discoveries about what works and what doesn't.
....different strokes for different folks...

Realizing that tailor-made is the best fit for you makes this so much easier.
Fantastic post and oh so true! Yes, I am one that says 1 size does not fit all too AND my approach has changed thru the years & most likely will change as my body tells it too!
Thx for this post & the straight forward talk!
So, so true. Part of my fuel is hearing about everyone else and their choices they make. That's why I love reading health blogs. Before, Blogs I had to have every magazine that was selling a success story.
Excellent point, Lee! (And a point I need reminding of on occasion.)
Makes perfect sense to me, Lee. We didn't all get unfit and unhealthy in the same way or for the same reasons and we won't find our way to hale and hearty on the same path either.
Most excellent post!
Selma - that's been part of what's helped me, too. I found out about Fage nonfat Greek yogurt from someone's blog. I don't know how I would have been led to try it otherwise.
Really, we are all the same, for we are all "one" in Truth. But in our egos, and our bodies, yes, it is a house of mirrors! What works is what works best!
So very true! I only found success when I gave up trying to follow someone else's diet.
Well said!
LOVED THIS POST!
Good point...we all have to find out what works best.
