This bioflavonoid, derived from buckwheat and citrus, can help relieve symptoms of hayfever and other allergic reactions. New evidence suggests that it also may increase exercise endurance, even in those who don't work out regularly.Grim news in this new public health report:

Adult obesity rates now exceed 25 percent in 31 states and exceed 20 percent in 49 states and Washington, D.C. Two-thirds of American adults are either obese or overweight. In 1991, no state had an obesity rate above 20 percent. In 1980, the national average for adult obesity was 15 percent. Sixteen states experienced an increase for the second year in a row, and 11 states experienced an increase for the third straight year.
Mississippi also had the highest rate of obese and overweight children (ages 10 to 17) at 44.4 percent. Minnesota and Utah had the lowest rate at 23.1 percent. Eight of the 10 states with the highest rates of obese and overweight children are in the South. Childhood obesity rates have more than tripled since 1980.

I love to listen to this song when I'm riding my bike (the video is nothing but you can hear the tune if you want):

Hi! I read about the quercetin & heard the news story on the obesity rates today!
Really scary about the obesity rates!!!!! We need to just get up and move.. do anything. Find something you like & do it. Also, the food is a huge issue as well. People have to do this themselves & take accountability along with parents setting better examples for the kids!
I also remember when I was in school, gym class was mandatory. Sad this has gone away in many many schools.
I had to go look up quercetin, because I had read something about it recently, but couldn't remember what it was. Now I know...it was capers! They are an excellent source, along with lovage, but that isn't very common. While looking it up, I saw this (wiki): A recent study found that organically grown tomatoes had 79% more quercetin than "conventionally grown". Maybe that is a good source for you!
Lee, I saw the obesity stats on the news yesterday, and then a story about how like a third of the population is or has abused prescription drugs. I swear, the medical and food industries are both trying to kill us!
Jody - Getting kids up and moving around would not only help with health, but would also increase potential for learning. Some people are coming up with creative programs for kids in schools but they are the exception, not the rule.
Patty - That's good news -- I love capers! And organically grown tomatoes!
Sad about the number of people who are losing out on living their lives due to an addiction to prescribed pain meds. I knew it was a problem (close hand because of my nephew and brother-in-law) but had no idea the huge scope of the problem. I suppose Michael Jackson's death is assisting in bringing attention to it.
