Monday weigh in

Last week: 155.2. Today's number: 153. A loss of slightly more than two pounds. I'll take it!

I started doing something that I'm having mixed feelings about. This past week I weighed myself every morning. The upside is that it has given me more information about how my body is processing the food, drink and exercise on a daily basis. What I've learned is that I can still lose weight while enjoying wine with dinner a couple nights but it slows the progress. This is something good to know because I know how to lose weight but I don't know how to maintain a healthy weight. I live in one of California's wine growing areas and we like to enjoy wine with meals. Learning how to manage this while reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is important to me. What I've already done is limit the meals with wine to two or three a week. Now it looks like I should limit myself to one glass. This seems doable.

By weighing myself every morning I learned about some more tweaking I need to do with my diet. On the other hand, I'm not as excited today with my two pound weight loss because a couple days earlier I saw 151 on the scale. Think I'm going back to once a week to keep my motivation strong.

Keep learning what works, have some fun, drink your water, eat foods that make you feel good, move your body and chose a positive attitude each new day!

Wow! That's great advice.

Awesome weightloss!

I toy with the same thing about weighing everyday or once a week. You are right that it is a great way to know what needs to be tweaked. When I'm really focused and exercising everyday it's usually good news when I step on and it keeps me motivated. But when I've not been giving it my 100%, well, the scale lets me know to get my butt moving!

We're learning and staying positive, for sure!

Once a week weigh ins are probably better. Small daily fluctuations are probably not due to fat loss, but rather changes in water retention and stomach emptying (based on what you eat, but not how much fat you put on).

Also, I have never found that wine actually correlates with weight. If anything, it improves insulin sensitivity over time, so should aid in weight loss. Be sure to get enough folic acid, to keep breast cancer risk low. Do this by eating whole grains.

Congrats on your progress!

Jim - thanks for stopping by. I like your blog a lot -- very positive!

Tena - It's so great when the scale gives a new exciting number, it's definitely motivating.

Darya - I think what I have to face up to with wine is portion control. We killed a bottle of Chardonnay two nights in a row. I'm eating very healthy lately but am still learning with each meal about portion-size.

Love your blog! You're so knowledgeable...I appreciate what you share. Thanks for stopping by.

BTW - I'm going to see if folic acid is included in my daily multivitamin.

I totally agree....that is one of the downsides of daily weighing in....at least for me, the scale goes down and then up! But, a loss is a loss!

@Lee

Folic acid is also called folate, fyi. I'm sure it is in your vitamins :)

Keep up the great work. I read a lot of blogs, but almost always feel compelled to comment here.
