The Austin portion of this vacation included birthday cake (only one piece for me but I was offered a second piece and turned it down -- I sure wanted it though) and a visit to the best barbecue place on the planet: The Salt Lick. Beer was also involved.
In New Orleans to combat the fried food, cocktails & beer and beignets (also fried, of course), I walked a lot despite having a rental car. I have the blister on my right foot as a souvenir -- ouch! -- but much better than a 5-pounds-of-extra-weight-souvenir.I credit eating bananas and apples with peanut butter from the hotel breakfasts (and not the french toast, waffles, muffins and pancakes) and a daily small can of low sodium V8 juice plus walking tours with helping to make this vacation a success. It can be done.

Thanks for the encouraging words today. I'm coming around. It really meant a lot to me.
Ah, The Salt Lick, one of the seven wonders of Texas.
Just did a trackback from my blog. Good stuff you've got here. I'll be back.
