wheying in

Recently, MizFit tackled the topic of protein powders. As we've come to expect, she provided a throughout examination of the topic. The comments were very informative as well. Apparently, there are many forms of protein powder, all with a unique set advantages and disadvantages.

I bought some whey protein powder several weeks ago. I sometimes add it to oatmeal along with chopped walnuts, cinnamon, and chopped fruit (mostly berries). When I hit a plateau, I stopped eating oatmeal every morning and when I did have oatmeal, I skipped adding the protein powder. I added a teaspoon of ground flax seed meal instead - less calories.

Do you use whey protein powder or any other type of protein powder? If so, how do you integrate the powder into your diet?

I have changed things with time & age. I used to do the MetRx carb/protein that MizFit showed in her post every morn (since it was only available in the MetRx gym here in CA. Tells you how long!) but with age & hormones, I had to change that up.. even though I do change my food anyway to keep my bod guessing like you! But with the protein powder, I was stuck on that MetRX mix until perimenopause hit! I now use the MetRX Protein Plus which has almost no carbs & mix it with other things. Had to cut back on carbs with age although I still eat my share. Just had to change things up due to age.

I also use AST VP2, Enhanced Absorption Formula! Pure Hydrolyzed Isolated Whey Protein For Supporting Muscle Growth!

Using these 2 gives me two types of powder.

Like you Lee, I used to eat more oatmeal.. I love it & I always put protein powder in it along with flax, cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice & a little brown sugar. I have had to cut back & eat it less to change things up with my age.

I also put protein powder in my homemade protein bars.. I use both types of my protein powder in them. The powder also goes in protein pancakes. I tend to use a powder with mostly all protein & few carbs now vs. when I was younger & could handle the protein/card type powders for after the workout. Can't really do that anymore even as much as I work out.

Here is a post I did on different types of protein:

Lee, you are doing the right thing by changing things up & finding what works for you! Good job!

I don't use it regularly, but I do love chocolate whey protein stirred into strawberry yogurt. It's divine!

I don't use any kind of protein powder, but I read MizFits article and it seems most people use them. Since I am no longer vegetarian, I feel like I am getting more than enough protein from my food.

I did try to find quinoa at my grocery store today, since it is supposedly a comlete protein, but they had never heard of it.

Sorry, I worded that comment wrong so I scrapped it. What I meant was...

I use whey protein in almond milk for breakfast often. I'm not much of a breakfast eater when I can't have an egg white omelet, so a protein shake is quick and keeps me from getting hungry.

Every trainer I've ever had has recommended it immediately after a big weight training session and not part of my regular diet. Generally I was drinking 3-4 a week. I think they really helped me recover. Have a great weekend. Yes, let's compare notes on what we find at the Farmers Market!

- ive tried the various brands and have researched the different protein powders and manufacturers, i pressed hard to find a protein powder that tasted great, had the concentrated protein that i wanted and was low in fats, sugar and calories. in correspondence to your above article whey is the best and the protein in PROTO WHEY is micro formulated, which basically means that more protein is being absorbed and not wasted with each glass. you end up receiving more protein into your system and end up saving money!
they also make a protein bar -
they are all natural, low calorie, low sugar and full of pure protein. but the thing i really love about them, is that they are not chewy and difficult to eat, they are crunchie (hence the name, ha) and delicious. it is a wafer bar... i love wafer cookies! check em out, i have one when ever i get a craving
